Hello Carpenters!
If you haven't received Teddy's email yet or otherwise heard, Canadore has officially cancelled classes for this week due to the Corona pandemic. You can read the official update here:
https://cdn.agilitycms.com/canadore-college/covid-19-coronavirus-update--march-14-2020-final.pdf
This means that we are off all this week. Don't come to class. No one else will be there.
Hopefully classes will recommence in a week's time on March 23. Please stay tuned to this website and the Canadore site linked above to find out when we are back on.
In the meantime, here are some things you can do to keep your head in the game this week:
1) Here is the College of Trades Website.
https://www.collegeoftrades.ca/
There are loads of information there about the trades in general and carpentry in specific. More particularly, here is the link to the Apprenticeship Training Standards book. This is the book that you take with you as an apprentice and, as you master each skill, have your journeyman sign off in the appropriate box.

If you would like a copy of the presentation that Trista from the ministry gave, feel free to email me at the address I gave you in class and I will forward it to you.
2) Plan Reading Video
Some of you have asked about the full version of the plans reading video we watched in class. The full 95 minute version is right here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd8CLQmemJI
If you would like to watch the 10 minute "Crash course" version again, that link is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3v3ik3kmks
3) Building Code Stuff
John Este from the Town of Parry Sound came and lectured last week. Many of you asked about getting a copy of the supplementary standards he showed you. John gave me permission to pass on his email address, and said you each get one free email! Go ahead and email him at
cbo (at) townofparrysound (dot) com
make sure to change the bracketed words to the correct punctuation.
4) Framing with Larry Haun
You can keep learning about framing by watching the rest of Larry Haun's videos.
Here is Larry on Floors:

Larry on Walls:

And Larry on roofs:

5) Your Awesome Textbook
As much as I love Larry, the canadian building code and standards are a little different today. Be sure to read the relevant chapters in your text book (I won't give them to you, you lazy sloth, look them up yourselves in the table of contents!) to find out the latest expectations and requirements in Canadian building.
That should keep you busy for a while. Feel free to email, call or text me if you have any questions or concerns. Other than that, get some rest, and as your classmate John would say, enjoy the home bowl!
