Electrical Class This Week

If you've been paying attention then this shouldn't come as a shock to you [/rimshot], but tomorrow you'll begin your electrical lessons with the instructor from North Bay.

Please remember to come to class on time, I'm sure the instructor will give you more details about his expectations on the first day, but I imagine at minimum you will need your green tag safety shoes, and it would probably be wise to have your hard hat and safety glasses handy.

Have fun!

And remember, I'll be back for more carpentry on Friday.

Class Delayed Till After Lunch

 Good morning Carpenters!

Well, I was on record predicting that the rain would pass us by today, but instead it is pouring down as I type.

BUT!

Both Environment Canada and the Weather Network agree that the rain will finish sometime before lunch.

So rather than lose the entire day just when we're making real progress on our Gazebo, let's

delay class until after lunch.

That's right - you can take the morning to read the text book chapters on roof framing (unit 15, pp. 478ff) and then study the gazebo plans for the rafter cutting.  Then we'll meet at the shop for 1:00 where we will work in the nice dry great out doors.

See you at 1:00 today!

As usual, feel free to call or text me with any questions.

Thanks!

Class Cancelled Today - Friday October 16

 Good Morning Carpenters!

As we talked about in class, today we were due to begin our gazebo, which means we would be working outside all day.

That also means we can't work if it's raining.

When it comes to rain though, we can't just go for it and hope for the best: I'm conscious of the fact that several of you have to work to arrange rides to and from school, and can't just travel in on a chance and leave early if we get rained out.  In other words, I need to make a decision now - before the day starts.

I remember an old boss once said to me that when it comes to decisions like this, any decision he makes would be the wrong one.

Given that, I'm calling a rain day today.

It's raining currently where I live, and the Environment Canada forecast for the day calls for likely rain all day.  I might still be willing to chance it, except that after lunch the forecast calls for thunderstorms with lightening, and a gazebo just isn't worth that risk.

So take the day, you can catch up on all the reading I gave you this week, and review your gazebo plans - see if you can find the mistake (hint: it's in the rafters).

As always, be in touch if you have any questions.

Class Tomorrow!

 Hello Carpenters!

Looking forward to seeing most of you in class tomorrow.  And by that I don't mean that I'm not looking forward to seeing some of you, but rather that some of you are not going to be able to join us tomorrow, and while that is unfortunate, that's just how life is sometimes.  Definitely looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it though!

Just to give you an updated schedule for the remaining class days:

And some reminders:

Class will run from 9:00 to 5:00 every day, with lunch from 12:00-1:00.

Please remember to come to class prepared with PPE and Hand-tools, including safety shoes.

Please follow the covid protocols as directed by the college - see video in previous post.

Once the outdoor construction has begun, we may be subject to class delays or cancellations due to weather.  In such events, a notice will be posted on the class website by 8:00 on the morning of.  Remember – it is your responsibility to check this.

Please inform the instructor if you will be absent from class, either by call, email or text at the number or address given to you in class.

Any other important notices or updates will be, as usual, posted on this course website.

Thanks!
